Gonzalo Fernández Castaño will make his debut, starting Thursday, at the Shell Houston Open. He's never played at the Golf Club of Houston, host to the tournament in Humble, Northwest of Houston. But the Madrid native isn't about to miss out on opportunities, he'll continue to have patience in working out the most consistent version of his game.
Additionally, this is the last opportunity to secure a spot in the Masters at Augusta, held next week. Gonzalo has already played in the first major of the year on three separate occasions (2012, 2013 and 2014), making the cut in all of them and finishing with notable performances, self-proclaimed lover of the tournament, of the course, of its enchantment...However, as is logical in the current circumstances, the possibility of making it to the Masters (he would need a victory in Houston) isn't currently at the top of the Spanish golfer's to-do list, nor in his short-term objectives.
Instead, it's about finding the most consistent version of his game on a course in which the rough around the green tends to be unforgiving.
