Gonzalo Fernández Castaño missed the cut at the Valero Texas Open after having turned in a second card for 72 shots. The wind called a ceasefire and let off a bit at the JW Marriott TPC San Antonio, and as a result there were better scores. The Madrid native, in fact, was in a position to make the cut, especially after he landed an incredible eagle on the 18th (he started his round off on the 10th), sinking a putt from a little farther than 10 meters out.
In general, Gonzalo improved his performance in this second round in all aspects of his game, much more solid from tee to green. But he's still missing that necessary spark, that bout of luck, in order to be able to set his sights definitively on broader horizons.
The weeks are passing by and the golfers that don't make it to the FedEx Cup playoffs have already far exceeded the halfway point of the season, but the Spanish golfer still has many tournaments to play ahead to be able to turn the situation around. Next week, in Houston, time to suit up and get back into action again.
