Gonzalo Fernández Castaño will begin his participation in the Valspar Championship today, PGA Tour tournament held on the infamously tough Copperhead course, at the Innisbrook Resort in Tampa, Florida. The Madrid native is confident in his ability to continue with the good vibes demonstrated just seven days ago in Puerto Rico, and which ended in his best results of the season in the US.
Gonzalo is up against a difficult challenge ahead, at one of the most demanding sites of the season. The course is narrow and the ball must be positioned well to be able to shoot for very small greens after. Not in vain, among the winners are highly esteemed names, such as major winners Retief Goosen, Mark Clacavecchia, Vijay Singh and Jim Furyk. Additionally, an interesting statistic which indicates just how well you have to play to come out with good results in Tampa: five of the last six winners of the Valspar finished the season among the top thirty of the FedEX Cup.
Gonzalo will confront this tournament in a good moment, after having made top 30 last Sunday and, above all, having been among the leaders of the weekend. He'll go out to play today at 1:05 pm, Spanish Peninsular time, together with Sean O'Hair and Fredrik Jacobson.
