Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño finished the third round of the Northern Trust Open with a 74 and currently stands at an accumulated total of six over par, in 68º place in the rankings.
It was a complicated day for the Madrid native. He started out with a nice birdie on the 10th, sinking an excellent putt from around three meters away, but that was the extent of his satisfaction on the greens. On the 12th hole, he made his first bogey after a painful 3-putt. Gonzalo continued to fight and left a few options for birdie which he wasn't able to convert. On the 1st hole, he would have been able to recover a shot on the course, but shortly thereafter he made three bogeys in a row, one especially painful bogey on the 3rd hole, when the ball practically didn't even move after his putt for par. He made another bogey on the 7th, this time landing a nice putt, and finished off the round with two pars.
It wasn't exactly the monumental day Gonzalo had hoped for, but he still has Sunday to move up in the rankings. The Riviera course has shown to be really tough, and any result under par will allow him to recover a lot of ground.
