Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño finished off the second round of the Human Challenge, date of the PGA Tour, held in California. The Spanish golfer played on the La Quinta course, the least accessible of the three courses of this tournament, and lost ground in the rankings.
He currently stands with a total result of three under par, just two shots away from the provisional cut. Today they'll narrow down the selection, after the third round, and the seventy best players, including ties, will go on to play on Sunday.
The Human Challenge turns into a birdie festival every year. It's played in a Pro-Am style format and the course conditions are usually pretty accessible. From there, it's about coming out with really low results. All scores not in the late sixties could be grounds for a set back.
Gonzalo had a complicated day from tee to green. He only landed five fairways and nine greens, which meant he was continually fighting to recover ground. He made three birdies, one bogey and a double bogey. The objective today will be to finish with a good round on the Nicklaus Private, possibly the most accessible of the three courses, to be able to make the cut. He'll play starting at 10.10, local time.
