Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño started off in the OHL Classic at Mayakoba with a round for par. However, it was a very unusual round. The Madrid native began on top of his game, and picked up the pace rapidly, setting off on cruise control mode, with two birdies on the 13th and 14th.
However, on the 15th, he ended up in a dark cloud where the turbulence kicked in. He was up against a destructive sequence of events, with a triple bogey, bogey and double bogey in four holes. He came out of the first nine holes in Mexico with a costly +4.
Gonzalo set out on the tee of the 1st hole, erased the past nine holes and started over, there was no other option. He left the dark cloud and the turbulence behind and started to do tricks in mid-air. Birdie on the 2nd and an incredible hat-trick on holes 5-7. In the blink of an eye, he managed to balance out his efforts on the Chameleon course in the Mayan Riviera.
Today, he'll play the second round with the goal of finishing with a round similar to that of holes 1 to 9 yesterday, but on all 18 holes. He'll tee-off at 1:15 pm, Spanish local time.
