Gonzalo Fernández Castaño will play in the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in Las Vegas this week, the second date of the PGA Tour. The Spanish golfer has already set foot on the TPC Summerlin and quite frankly assures that he doesn't see as many possibilities for birdies as the history of this tournament has shown.
You don't have to go too far to realize that you have to lay low to win in Las Vegas. The last two years Webb Simpson and Ryan Moore have won the trophy, both with a total of -24. Furthermore, the Nevada course was the third highest producing course for birdies throughout the past season of the PGA Tour, and it also has the fourth most difficult hole of the year, the 15th.
Gonzalo will try to get the bad taste out of his mouth this week from seven days ago when he missed the cut at the Frys.com Open. The sun and the heat will be the decisive factors throughout the week. Excellent conditions help make for a longer trajectory of the ball. To be exact, controlling the adrenaline produced by the necessity to make birdies and keeping track of the distances will be the two key factors this week.
Gonzalo will play on Thursday together with Tim Wilkinson and Cameron Tringale starting at 3:50 pm, Spanish time.
