Gonzalo Fernández Castaño will begin the new PGA Tour season again this Thursday. The Spanish golfer will compete in the Frys.com Open to kick off the American tour calendar, held on the North course at the Silverado Country Club in Napa, California.
Gonzalo has spelled out his homework since the beginning of this course. He wants to start the season off strong, and avoid last year's stress, when he had to wait until August to lock in the PGA Tour card. He's looking forward to taking on the new season. “The objective is to get off to a good start and not to leave all the work for the last day”, he assures.
The tournament started back in 2007, although it's changed since then. The Silverado Country Club, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. In 1968, is back in the PGA Tour after many years absence. To be exact, it was the site of the tournament until 1980. Gonzalo assures that the area makes him feel at ease. “We're in Napa, a nice place, good weather, it reminds me a lot of Spain, lots of oak trees, vineyards everywhere. It's a great course, old. And the best part is that we'll all start off on the same foot because nobody is familiar with this course.” The weather is supposed to be nice: “pretty cold in the morning, but afterwards we'll be in playing in 30 degree (celsius) weather”, says the Spanish golfer.
