Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño is making a good defense of his position inside the FedEx Cup. The Spaniard has made PAR in the opening round of the Deutsche Bank Championship, a score that places him ranked 39th of the table, just the result that, according to the projection of the PGA Tour, would give him access to the third playoff next week.
The projection offered by PGA Tour earlier in the week is an indicative fact, not mathematical. In fact, right now, Gonzalo would not enter among the top 75 with the 39th position, but the way is still very long and will see how the situation is on Monday.
In any case, PAR, in a difficult TPC Boston, has him stuck squarely in the fight. Gonzalo made three birdies and three bogeys, repeating that kind of relationship love/hate with the greens. He began making two good putts for birdie from 4.5 to 6 metres, but after made three putts in the third hole. He signed another good birdie from about three meters in 9th, but not got any more and no left the ball too close. However, he not got in trouble, solid game, hitting many fairways and greens.
Gonzalo will start to play today the second round at 09.32 ET.
