Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño finished with a 70 in the second round of the PGA Championship in Valhalla, securing the cut in the last major of the year. The cut and even more, now that he's coming up on 30º place, definitively looking ahead to the weekend.
The Spanish golfer made three birdies and just two bogeys in a complicated round on the Louisville course. The ominous black clouds from yesterday's forecast appeared and the rain came down hard. So much so that the beginning of the round had to be postponed by almost 45 minutes, raining off and on throughout the day. In other words, it was an unpleasant, uncomfortable game.
Gonzalo played pretty well from tee to green, especially with the irons. Both the bogeys came on par 3s, on the 8th after not having recovered from the rough and on the 14th due to a painful 3 putt. In any case, there were good vibes on the green today. One of the birdies was from almost eight meters away (3rd hole) and another from four meters away on the 9th to end the round.
Thus, Gonzalo broke a bad streak after missing two cuts in a row in the majors (US Open and the Open Championship), and he'll put it all out on the table this weekend dreaming big in hopes of going far.
