Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño can rest easy. Seven months after the start of the season, the Spanish golfer has finally locked down his PGA Tour card. And he did it in Canada for an incredible week, finishing with a proud fourth place, which skyrocketed him to 107th in the FedEX Cup.
With just three tournaments left to finish out the regular season, these results guarantee Gonzalo one more year with the right to play in the US, mission accomplished.
Gonzalo finished the round on Sunday with a spectacular 66, the best score of the week, putting him in fourth place, tied with two other players. The Madrid native was able to overcome the obligatory change in driver (it broke after teeing off from the 16th on Saturday) and he maintained an exceptional level of play with the irons, leaving the majority of the balls near the hole. His game improved substantially on the last nine holes of the day where he went into attack mode, coming out with three birdies in order to secure the card and to be able to organize his schedule much more calmly for the rest of the year, in the US as well as in Europe.
