Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño won’t finish out the weekend at Royal Liverpool. The Spanish golfer ended up with a 76 in the second round of the Open Championship, and he was left out of the cut.
Another inconsistent day in every aspect of the game, and it took a toll on the Madrid native. For the moment, the dynamic hasn’t changed, but there’s enough time ahead to straighten out the season, and Gonzalo will dedicate his heart and soul to it. “For one reason or another, things just aren’t falling into place. It’s a matter of confidence, but there are still four tournaments left (Canada, Bridgestone, PGA and Wyndham) to turn the tables around and I’ll put everything I’ve got into it to get there”, assured Gonzalo just after signing the card.
Inconsistency is Fernando-Cataño’s main problem. Today he made five bogeys and just one birdie, strangely enough on the last hole of the day. “At least we’ll leave with a better taste in our mouths”, he said resignedly. And he added: “I had some great swings, but I also had some bad ones with the same club. On top of that, today the putts were off. On days like today, it's difficult to have a positive outlook”, he concluded.
Gonzalo will now set out for Canada to play in the next PGA Tour tournament.
