Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño finished his participation in The Greenbrier Classic with a 71 for a total of PAR. It wasn't the Sunday the Madrid native had hoped for, struggling again with his long game, although he held on tight around the greens to push through the round.
It took him five holes to catch his first green, and he ended the day with six to his name, less than half, which made him trail behind the entire day. He reached a total of eleven regulation greens, in other words, a constant battle around the greens to try to save the pars.
Even so, he managed to 'steal' a few birdies from The Old White TPC at White Sulphur Springs, all on the second nine holes. Precisely when it seemed that he was on the verge of an epic comeback, but a painful double bogey on the 14th brought everything to a sudden halt.
Despite everything, Gonzalo refused to give up and fought for each and every shot, finishing out the day with an amazing birdie on the 17th. The next date on the calendar will be the John Deere Classic next week, another PGA Tour tournament, precursor to the Open Championship at Hoylake.
