Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño made the cut at the Greenbrier Classic for the fifth time in a row in the regular tournaments of the PGA Tour. He's on a role that's even more impressive if we keep in mind that he didn't have it easy.
The Madrid native's long game was off. He only caught seven fairways and nine greens; however, he was able to recover on seven of the nine occasions. A round of hard work, sweat and blood, rolling up his sleeves to get the job done to be able to compete for two more days.
It's always vital to make the cut, even more so in tournaments like this one held at the Old White TPC at White Sulphur Springs in West Virginia.
The rankings are tight, nothing spectacular, but there are many possibilities for birdies if the game is well-played. That being said, Gonzalo finished with a 71 for a total of -1, just eight shots from the leader, Bill Hurley III, and four from the top ten.
Troy Matteson's ruond (61 with 19 putts!) and Hurley III himself (63) are proof that you can finish with very few shots when you're on point in every aspect of your game. Gonzalo will attempt to get back the good vibes from tee to green that he had on Thursday accompanied by a good day of golf around the greens to try and move his way up to the top.
