Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño (-7) finished his best tournament yet of the season in Connecticut. The Spanish golfer turned in his final card with a 66, and proved that yesterday’s last seven holes were nothing more than a fluke that didn’t even make a dent in his game.
It wasn’t easy to come out today at the TPC River Highlands to play the fourth round of the Travelers Championship with the heavy burden of frustration on his back from the final hours of Saturday’s session. However, Gonzalo demonstrated that he can leave it on the course and start fresh. He cleared his head and was able to allow his true capacity for the game to shine through, which gets better and better by the week.
From tee to green he was on point, only missing a few fairways and three greens. His only error of the day was on hole 17. It went straight to the water, although he was able to pull through and finish off with a bogey. Up to that point, he had landed four birdies with minimal difficulties. He danced around the water on hole 13, but escaped clean; he went for precision and ended up with an outstanding birdie.
The Spanish golfer secured a spot in the top 30 of the tournament, and is much more optimistic about the future. The vibes are good, and he’ll try to carry that on with him to next week’s tournament at the BMW International Open in Germany. It’s time to cross the Atlantic for Europe.
