Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (-4) worked hard to close the second round of the Travelers Championship with his second 68 of the week on this par 70 at the TPC River Highlands, which allowed him to pass the cut comfortably, ready for the attack this weekend.
It wasn't the best day off the tee for the Spanish golfer and on occasion as a reflection of that, his regulation green statistics aren't exactly outstanding either. However, he was able to remain consistent, and to perform during clutch moments of the round.
For example, on the first five holes, starting off at the 10th, he recovered nicely on three critical occasions, some of which made for a delicate situation: on holes 11 and 14, he sank both putts from more than three meters away to save the par.
It's also worth noting the way in which he cleanly handled the two par 5s on the Cromwell (Connecticut) course, both of which he was shooting for the eagle, from a bit less than four meters away on the 13th, and from nine meters away on the 6th. He landed the birdie on both.
The Spanish golfer made a crucial comeback on hole 9 with a magnificent wedge from the fairway that left the ball less then one meter from the hole to finish with an inspiring birdie.
Gonzalo will play tomorrow alongside Brendon de Jonge starting at 11,12, local time (17,12 Spanish time).
