Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño started off in the Travelers Championship with a 68, an incredible result first thing in the morning as he continued to move up in rank throughout the day.
The TPC River Highlands in Connecticut was played in excellent conditions, little wind and and very nice weather. Thus, the players during the afternoon session found the course to be a bit harder and shorter than the those who played in the morning session.
When Gonzalo finished his round, he went to watch the top ten, and finally ended up in 40th place, one shot away from the cut, yes, but also just three shots away from top ten. In any case, more important than numbers and rankings is the sensation the Spanish Golfer gave off. He was much more consistent than in the US Open, especially with the irons, and was mentally all there, very focused. His only two bogies were on holes 8 and 17 after missing both putts from a little less than a meter away. They're errors that hurt, but Gonzalo didn't let them bring him down, and he continued on to land birdies.
Tomorrow, he'll have to fight hard to move up in the tournament, but if the conditions remain the same as today, he'll have a good shot at it. Gonzalo will play on Friday at 12.10 in the afternoon local time, 18.10 Spanish time.
