Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño is already preparing himself for the beginning of the US Open 2014 at Pinehurst No. 2. The Spanish golfer will play the first round on Thursday starting at 14:09, local time, along with Bo Van Pelt and Seung Yul Noh, tee off on the first hole.
Gonzalo played the second nine holes today on the North Carolina course accompanied by the Italian duo of the US open once again, Francesco Molinari and Andrea Pavan. His game was not quite on point, but the worst setback came sometime later. The Madrid native had planned on hitting a few practice balls before calling it a day, but an electric storm put a damper on those plans, and ended the day early. It's a setback, yes, but nothing serious. Instead, he decided to pay a visit to the physiotherapist to adjust his back.
Rain or shine tonight at Pinehurst, this US Open will truly put the golfers to the test, especially the shots on the greens, because they're hard as a rock. Whoever maintains the most refined short game this week, and proves more precise with the irons, will have a lot of the work cut out for them. “He landed a +3 and caught twelve greens everyday...”. These are Gonzalo's calculations, to get an idea of the difficulties they're up against this week.
