Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (-2) shot a 70 in the first round of the Afrasia Bank Mauritius Open, currently four shots away from the top score, five golfers tied for the lead at the moment (Hebert, Langasque, Hojgaard, Stone and Forrest).
The Spanish golfer was somewhat inconsistent on the tee shots (he hit a total of nine fairways and 12/18 regulation greens), on a day in which play was slightly affected by the wind at the Heritage Golf Club (Heritage Bel Ombre, Mauritius).
In any event, Gonzalo was able to keep things relatively under control, taking full advantage of the four par 5s on the course, where he made four birdies, with a bit of a roller coaster ride on the final stretch, with three bogeys and two birdies.
The golfer from Madrid will play in the second round in the afternoon, starting at 12:30 pm local time (9:30 CET), with the goal of making his way closer toward the top.
