Gonzalo Fernández Castaño will play in the Afrasia Bank Mauritius Open this week, which will be his last tournament of the year 2019, pertaining to the European Tour 2020.
The Spanish golfer played in this tournament last year on a different course. This year’s edition will be held at the Heritage Golf Club (Heritage Bel Ombre, Mauritius), a course he likes a lot, which is always a good thing.
“The course is well prepared, and in perfect condition. It’s a great course. Really nice par 3s and par 5s, which can almost all be reached in two shots. It’s a course that makes you think, it’s not just a straight shot, and that’s it. It’s true that the greens are a bit slow, but it’s normal because there is usually a lot of wind, and they can’t risk of making them too fast”, Gonzalo explains.
Indeed, the wind usually takes center stage on Mauritius Island, although the forecast for this week isn’t anything too dramatic. There will be moderate winds everyday, although there will be some intense bouts of wind occasionally. The golfer from Madrid will play on Thursday in the first round in the morning, starting at 7:30 am local time (4:30 in the morning CET), with South African golfer, Hennie Otto and Swedish golfer, Philip Eriksson.
