Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (-4) shot a 71 in the fourth and final round of the Portugal Masters, resulting in a definitive 127th place in the Race to Dubai, after the last stop on the regular calendar at the Dom Pedro Victoria Golf Course in Vilamoura.
He didn’t manage to pull off his increasingly complicated goal in the end, which was to reach 116th place in the rankings and thus, maintain the complete rights to play in the European Tour in 2020.
The golfer from Madrid, who had positioned himself relatively well after the first two rounds, was not able to carry out that electric round he was in search of to shoot him up in the rankings, closing out this Sunday session with a round made up of errors and execution alike, with four birdies and four bogeys.
Gonzalo will now attend the European Tour Qualifying School Final (from the 15th to the 20th of November at Lumine Golf, Tarragona) in attempts to improve his category of play for next season, although he’s already secured a minimum of 18 tournaments, which could end up granting him access to twenty tournaments.
