It wasn’t the day Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño had hoped for in the Portugal Masters. Quite the contrary, in fact. He shot a 72, one over par, and lost a lot of ground in the rankings. Too much.
So much so that now, his only option is to pull off an epic round.
He would need to shoot eight under par in order to have a shot at reaching his objective of maintaining the card. His own calculations lie somewhere around a top 7. He’s currently at a difference of seven shots. The mission, as you can see, is complicated, but not impossible, and Gonzalo will go all in tomorrow. He’ll need to finish with his best round of the year in this last attempt. If he succeeds, he will still have the chance to maintain his category 10 status before playing in the School finale.
In any event, keep in mind that he has already secured category 18 for next year, which would allow him to play in at least twenty tournaments.
