Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (-5) made the cut in the Portugal Masters after shooting a 68 and 69 on Thursday and Friday, shooting him up to the top 20 of the tournament, with all options still on the table.
The Spanish golfer needs to finish at the top on Sunday (minimum ninth place, although always dependent on the other scores) to reach a spot in the top 116 in the Race to Dubai, which means he would maintain the complete rights to play in the European Tour in 2020.
Gonzalo started the round off at Dom Pedro Victoria Golf Course today with a bogey on the first hole, but it was the first and the last on his card. After the front nine holes in which he had to save several delicate situations, the Spanish golfer straightened out his game on the back nine on the Portuguese course, having let several good options for birdies slip through his fingers along the way.
This Saturday, he’ll play at 11:30 am local time (one hour later in Spain) with a fellow Spanish golfer, Adri Arnaus.
