Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño (PAR) will live to see another day in the Open de France, and more importantly, he’s still on track to reach his goal of maintaining the European Tour card. The golfer from Madrid suffered at Le Golf National in Paris this Friday, but he hung in there in large part due to his solid short game, earning two extra balls on Saturday and Sunday, as he continues to move up in the rankings.
Gonzalo is currently in 31st place, five shots away from the top ten. He’s far from the objective, but with 36 holes left to play, anything can happen. The biggest pressure factor was to make the cut, and the golfer from Puerta de Hierro just barely held on. His short game was very on point in the second round. He made two birdies. two bogeys and one double bogey.
Now, it’s time to buckle down throughout the next two days in order to climb as high up as possible in the rankings, and to earn enough points to seal the deal, or at least gain some major ground with the last event of the season on the horizon in Portugal.
