The rain put a damper on the plans at the FedEx St. Jude Classic held at the TPC Southwind in Memphis, although Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño (-3) came out untouched for the time being.
The Spanish golfer was one of the 32 players that was able to finish the round yesterday before the water poured down over the Tennessee course and suspended the round definitively for the day. On top of that, he was able to manage the rough conditions well, and finished with a dignified par with four birdies and four bogeys.
Gonzalo wasn’t outstanding from tee to green like the first day, but he was able to come to an agreement with the course to stay afloat in the tournament, bordering on the top ten, although somewhat of a long shot from leader, Ben Crane (-12), maintaining the lead with the best rounds on both Thursday and Friday consecutively.
Gonzalo will have to wait patiently today, Saturday, for the second round of the tournament to be completed to see if there will be the possibility to complete an entire third round. Reminder that the US Open is just around the corner, so we’ll all keep our fingers crossed in hopes that the rain lets up.
