Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño (-1) made the cut in the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth. An excellent maneuver in the fight to maintain the card, especially when taking into consideration that this tournament is made up of the most points and biggest prize pool of those left to play this season.
At least as far as the complete ‘field’ tournaments, apart from the final series in Turkey, South Africa and Dubai, where the golfers who are ranked below 100 in the Race to Dubai cannot access.
Gonzalo started off this Thursday with a solid 70 in the morning, and a 73 on Friday, with more difficult playing conditions, a dryer course and less receptive greens. In any event, making the cut is an important feat in and of itself. The next objective is to move as high up as possible in the rankings in order to get closer to his goal.
It’s important to note that a tenth place at Wentworth would allow him to maintain the complete rights to play next year. Anything that comes close would mean making major ground. He’ll play on Saturday with Ian Poulter and Ross Fisher.
