There are things that definitively leave their mark throughout one’s career. Obviously, your first win in the European Tour is one of the highest on the food chain. That’s why Gonzalo Fernández Castaño always arrives to Holland in a good mood, with a big smile spread across his face.
And it was in Holland, where the 100th edition of the KLM Open will be held this week, where he took home his first win in the European Tour in the year 2005. The golfer from Madrid won with an accumulated total of eleven under par, with a two-shot advantage over Gary Emerson.
That was the first of Gonzalo’s seven wins in the European Tour. There’s no better place to go back to, in the midst, as he is, of a full-on war to maintain the European Tour card. He’s very well positioned, with lots of room to work with, although the sooner he reaches the objective, the better. And why not in Holland?
It’s worth noting that it’s the same country where he took home his first win, but not the same course. The Spanish golfer won at the Hilversumsche, and this week he’ll be playing at the International in Amsterdam.
