Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (+3) did not make the cut in the Omega European Masters after shooting a 73 in the second round. A double bogey early on, the 11th hole and the second of the round, complicated things right from the start and, although the Spanish golfer came back with birdies on the 12th and 16th, another big slip-up happened on the 6th hole (another double bogey), leaving him practically without any options to continue over the weekend.
The truth is that nothing turned out this week as Gonzalo had hoped, but he’s still completely aware of the fact that these types of ‘accidents’ are common in golf. He had arrived to the Crans-Sur Sierre Golf Club (Crans-Montana, Switzerland) in a good place, very confident in his tee to green game; he was hitting the ball with lots of control, which left him feeling very optimistic. But when it came down to it, however, none of the aspects of his game were ‘up to par’.
After three weeks in a row of competition (Czech Republic, Sweden and Switzerland), Gonzalo will not be at the Porsche European Open in Hamburg next week, his next reappearance to play another two weeks in a row (KLM Open and the BMW in Wentworth, Rolex Series Tournament).
