Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño shot a 70 in the first round of the Scandinavian Invitational, PAR, just barely within the provisional cut. It’s not a bad start on the Hills Golf Club course in Gothenburg (Sweden), but the finale left a bittersweet taste in his mouth, seeing as how the round was going much better in the beginning, and then things got complicated after two bogeys on the last four holes.
Gonzalo started off on the 10th hole, with four consecutive pars, and then he slipped up on the 15th with a bogey. But his response to the mishap was exceptional. Between the 18th and the 3rd hole, he made three magnificent birdies, which shot him up to the top of the rankings, just two shots from the top ten.
However, in the end, with two bogeys between the 6th and the 8th holes, he finished with a total score of PAR. He’ll have to climb his way back up the ladder tomorrow in order to make the cut, and to get a shot at fighting for the top spots.
Be that as it may, Gonzalo continues to maintain that positive dynamic from the past few tournaments. In his last 26 rounds, only four have been over par, and his highest score was a 75.
