Over 23 years ago, Marc Cohn wrote and composed the music to Walking in Memphis, a song that travelled like wild fire across the entire US until it climbed to the top as Number One in sales. This time, we're not talking about music, but golf, and Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño isn't exactly in Memphis for a walk in the park, rather to continue to move forward toward his goal of maintaing that golden American PGA ticket.
The Spanish golfer begins on Thursday in the FedEX St. Jude Classic, PGA Tour tournament that will be held at the TPC Southwind course in Memphis, somewhat casted in the shadows of next week's giant, the US Open. However, this tournament is just as important as any other, not only for Gonzalo, but for all golfers.
And what's more, it's an excellent opportunity to move up since most of the big fish of the golf world have chosen to skip it to save energy in preparation for Pinehurst. From there, in thinking that it's a less important date, simply being a part of the PGA Tour changes the entire outlook. Could we dare to say that a tournament in which Phil Mickleson, Dustin Johnson, Webb Simpson, Rickie Fowler, Patrick Reed, Lee Westwood, Zach Johnson, Ian Poulter, Russell Henley and Graeme McDowell are participating is anything less?
Gonzalo will come out on Thursday alongside Jerry Kelly and Andrés Romero starting at 19:00 (Spanish time). Fun game with aggressive players.
