Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (+3) shot a 71, PAR, in the second round of the Estrella Damm Andalucía Masters, a more than acceptable score at Valderrama, keeping in mind that he played during the most problematic time of day, in the afternoon, due to the wind.
Unfortunately, such a valiant effort went unrewarded, and the Spanish golfer missed the cut by just one shot. And his 71 was a mini miracle, seeing as how Gonzalo had been quite erratic off the tee, missing many of the fairways, and then following through with impossible recovery shots, like on the 18th, to finish out the tournament.
The golfer from Madrid didn’t exactly choose the best moment to take a step backward now that he’s just come into a very important stretch of the season with two major tournaments ahead, the Rolex Series in Ireland and the Scottish Open, in which just one solid performance could resolve the entire year.
