Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño has put the Memorial Tournament to rest after a difficult weekend. Few positive points to get out of the last couple rounds, apart from the fact that the tournament has ended, and it's time to start thinking about the next big date in Memphis.
The Spanish golfer said goodbye to Muirfield Village with a round of 77 shots and a total of +11. The errors weighed in too heavily to come out of, once again, during this final round. In fact, Gonzalo started off on hole 1 with a harsh triple bogey, a heavy burden when you're coming out fresh on a Sunday in some of the first games in hopes of locking down a solid round that would allow you to move up in ranking.
Despite all the difficulties, Gonzalo came back with three birdies between holes 2 and 7, but later, the double bogey on hole 9 served as the definitive blow to his game. From then on, the objective was to finish the round, regroup and set all sights on the Fedex St. Jude Classic, a tournament that will be played in Memphis next week, and the final stop of the US Open at Pinehurst.
