It was a day to forget for Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño in the third round of the Memorial Tournament. The Spanish golfer ended with 79 and a total of +6, placing him in the lower leg of the rankings.
Nothing went right today on the Muirfield Village course in Ohio. Three double bogeys, three bogeys and two birdies were the outcome of a day that went sideways quickly. In fact, the beginning was borderline catastrophic (five more in five holes) and from there, he tried to come out as best he could.
The best part about when this happens in golf is that there is always another opportunity in the next round of the next day, and that day will come tomorrow, on Sunday. He’s far from the top seeds, but whatever leads to improving his ranking and accumulating points is more than positive for Gonzalo in his objective of maintaining the PGA Tour card.
The leader of the Memorial Tournament is Bubba Watson, one shot ahead of Scott Langley, two ahead of Hideki Matsuyama and three above the Number One in the world, Adam Scott.
