The Kenya Open turned into a struggle with a few recurring issues for Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (-3, shot a 73 in today's round), mainly in the first third of each round, fighting against impatience and setbacks in the score, that he just wasn't able to overcome.
In the first round he had no choice but to make a comeback after a bad start to the round, to the point that he ended up tying with the course; in the second, he also had to swim upstream, which lead to those sensational second nine holes that set the bar high, finishing with 66 shots; and in the third, he had to get his hands dirty again to compensate for a bad stretch between the 6th and 8th holes, where he got a bogey and two double bogeys, followed by three nearly consecutive birdies, but he wasn't able to turn the tables completely this time around. He was very patient, once again, but it wasn't enough to make a full 180 and to move up in the rankings, or at least not to fall back.
His chance at the win was completely diminished, seeing as how the leaders finished at -11, but at the very least, he can still play in the last round with the goal of finishing in the hot zone, or even in the top ten if he manages to avoid those bad, destructive stretches that he's been suffering through.
