Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (-2) got the painful thorn out of his side after missing the cut in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, deep in the process of technical adjustments, and he will be playing over the weekend in Arabia after shooting a 70 at the Royal Greens Golf and Country Club, host to the Saudi International.
It was a windy round, even in the morning games, which is when the Spanish golfer teed off, whose game was, in reality, far beyond his final score of 70 shots, enough to place him just three shots away from the top ten of the tournament, nine from the leader, Dustin Johnson (-11).
Fernández Castaño has improved immensely off the tee, where he was quite inconsistent on Thursday, and his irons were solid and accurate, so much so that he accumulated five birdies. The putter held him back from moving higher up in the rankings, with four putts on the green on the 15th hole (double bogey), and three putts on two other holes. Despite these setbacks, he felt good about the round in the end, and most of all, more confident in his long game.
The Spanish golfer will play in the third round this Saturday starting at 9:44 am (7:44 am, Spanish time) together with British golfer, Matthew Southgate, three hours before the big game of the day.
