Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (-2) finished with a solid first round in the Saudi International, third consecutive tournament of the desert portion of the European Tour, which hasn’t gone his way so far, seeing as how he hasn’t managed to make the cut yet.
The golfer from Madrid played in the afternoon, when the playing conditions were complicated because of the wind, which usually happens around that time of day at the Royal Greens Golf & CC, so the score was well-deserved (only 24 golfers shot under par in the afternoon).
Gonzalo continues to take steps forward in the arduous task of adapting to the technical changes in his swing that he’s been working on alongside his coach, Jamie Gough. Today, for example, the Spanish golfer was hitting better with the irons, just a bit more inconsistent with the driver. Additionally, he stood his ground against the ferocious greens. His goal is to come back strong on Friday morning, with hardly any wind, in order to make it through to the weekend, and thus gain some confidence back.
He’ll play in the second round starting at 8:45 am, local time (6:45 in the morning Spanish time) together with French golfer Benjamin Gebert and Spanish golfer, Pablo Larrazábal.
