Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño (+2) had a tough day at the office in the first round of the Omega Dubai Desert Classic, European Tour tournament held on the Majlis Course at the Emirates Golf Club.
Gonzalo suffered a nightmare scenario around the green. He had the possibility of making eight recoveries, and wasn’t able to follow through on the approach and the putt on any of them, some for birdie on the par 5s, others for par. In fact, he came through on the approach once, and then had three putts for double bogey. A tough blow to come back from, although Gonzalo did not once throw in the towel, and has proved again that he is a real golfer, tried and true. After a partial score of six over par for the day after 12 holes, he was able to finish with a -4, giving himself the opportunity to make the cut on Friday.
He’ll need a round of five under par, at the very least, to make it through to the weekend. That’s the goal.
