Just as he set out to do, Gonzalo Fernández Castaño has been working hard these past days, since the day he didn’t make the cut in Abu Dhabi, alongside Jamie Gough, his new coach, on some important changes in his swing. It’s all about the changes starting to come naturally, and to gain more and more confidence as time goes on.
The golfer from Madrid has reason to believe it will happen, although he’s still proceeding with caution and thinking more in the medium term, seeing as how he’s felt quite comfortable throughout some of the phases in the practice rounds that he’s played at the Emirates Golf Club in Dubai, where he’ll compete in the Dubai Desert Classic this Thursday, but he knows there’s still a lot of room for improvement.
Gonzalo has played in this tournament six times before, although he hasn’t been back since 2010, which is now nine years ago. He’s never managed to take off in this tournament, nor to be able to fight for the win, and 24th place was his best performance in 2009. The Spanish golfer will play in the first game of the first round this Thursday, breaking in the course, starting at 7:10 am, local time (4:10 am on Thursday, Spanish time) with Finnish golfer, Kim Koivu and French golfer, Matthieu Pavon.
