Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (-1) fought to the bitter end to make the cut in Abu Dhabi, with a total of 71 shots, even putting for eagle on the 18th hole, where the ball stopped right on the edge of the hole (but the eagle wouldn’t have helped in making the cut in the end anyway).
The golfer from Madrid put the new, significant changes in his swing to the test in these first two rounds of the year, alongside his coach, Jamie Gough. And, despite not making the cut, it’s not all bad because his scores of 72 and 71 shots are by no means a disaster, among other factors.
But, the bad news comes with a silver lining: the Spanish golfer now has an entire week ahead to continue working with Gough on the changes. He’ll be staying in Abu Dhabi to practice throughout this time, and then in Dubai on Sunday. “These coming days are very important for me, together with Jamie, to try to make progress with all the work we’ve been doing”, the golfer remarked.
