Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño began the Memorial Tournament of the PGA Tour with a 73, one under par, with three birdies and four bogeys.
The Spanish golfer is currently placed among the top seventy, which means he's within the limits of the provisional cut that will be decided after the second round. Gonzalo's game today was inconsistent, on a hot streak on holes 6 through 9, where he landed three birdies, but accompanied by a few bad shots as well on holes 2 and 14 where he sent the ball to the water, although he was able to manage to turn them into bogeys.
He caught about half the fairways and half the greens, a sign of inconsistency, but at the same time proof that he was fighting for each and every shot. On a course like Muirfield Village, it's not easy to come out well if your game isn't tight off the tee, and the Spanish golfer just wasn't able to pull it off this time.
Gonzalo will play today starting at 13:42, Spanish time, again with Morgan Hoffman and Greg Chalmers. They'll tee off on the 10th hole, Gonzalo with the sole objective of completing a good, solid round to get him closer to Rory Mcllroy, who started off with a phenomenal round of 63, three less than Casey, Bubba and Kirk.
