Gonzalo Fernández Castaño will play in the Afrasia Bank Mauritius Open this week, second tournament on the 2019 European Tour calendar, held at the Four Seasons Golf Club Mauritius at Anahita (Beau Champ, Mauritius). The Spanish golfer is on a quest for redemption from his score last week in Hong Kong, where he did not make the cut.
In order to accomplish this feat, as Gonzalo himself acknowledges, he’ll have to be accurate on the course greens, designed by Ernie Els, small and rough, seeing as how there will be no wind until Sunday, one of the main defense tactics of the course, located right next to the sea, and “the fairways are very wide and generous, which is why I think it can be beat with a pretty low score”, he proclaimed.
Thus, it’s possible to shoot solid shots with confidence on the drive from the tee, although, with a minimum level of accuracy, seeing as how on many of the holes, beyond the generosity of the wide fairways, is out of bounds on both sides.
The golfer from Madrid, who will be playing in this tournament for the first time in his career, will start at 4:50 in the morning on Thursday (Spanish time; three hours ahead in Mauritius) with South African golfer, Thomas Aiken and French golfer Romain Langasque.
