Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (-2) finished off the round with a putt for birdie from around three meters away on the 18th hole, and shot a 69 in the first round of the KLM Open. An excellent comeback in a trying round of golf, which got complicated after a double bogey on the 13th hole, par 5.
It’s more than an acceptable start to the tournament, seeing as how things are really tight at The Dutch, host to the tournament: more than sixty golfers are within five shots of each other, all the way up to the leader, Chinese golfer Ashun Wu (-7).
The Spanish golfer was a bit inconsistent in his game from tee to green, although he was able to resolve his problems in general around the greens on the Dutch course, coming through on the majority of the recoveries he came up against. Gonzalo will play in the second round in the morning, starting at 8:35 am.
