Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño made the cut at the Spanish Open, yes, but it's just another cut in the end with 36 holes to go to improve his position in the rankings.
The Spanish golfer ended up with a 75 for a total of +4. He may have made it past the cut, but he was waiting on pins and needles up until the very last minute to confirm it.
Gonzalo continues to battle through a lack of a confidence that has been haunting him throughout the last couple weeks. Today, he put all his energy into holes four and nine this round (he started on the 10th). He made four bogeys and a birdie. The rest was a constant struggle in an attempt not to fall behind and keep the hope alive of making the cut, a goal that seemed near impossible after finishing the round this morning. However, during the afternoon, the conditions took a turn for the worse with strong winds and the greens were even harder.
His long game wasn't bad at all. Today he caught 10 fairways and fourteen greens, but his putt (33) didn't help much. Two days ahead with one major goal in mind: to gain back his usual level of confidence. Gonzalo will play tomorrow with Bernd Wiesberger starting at 8:11 in the morning.
