Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño will compete in the KC Golf Classic at the Nicklaus Golf Club at LionsGate, in Kansas. This tournament marks the start of the countdown to the top 25 of the Web.com Tour at the end of the season, and to earn back the PGA Tour card.
And we refer to it as the countdown because there are only three tournaments left before the Finals, or in other words, the top 25 of the Web rankings within these three weeks who will have already been granted the card.
Gonzalo’s got quite a bit of work ahead to achieve his goal. He’s currently in 68th place in the rankings. For example, in order to make it to the top 25 this week, his only option is to win. But if he were to make it to the top 5, he would gain quite a bit of ground, putting him in a good position to finish the job in the last two tournaments.
At the moment, Gonzalo is $76,000 from the goal, and a sole second place this week would put $72,000 and change in his pocket.
Gonzalo will play this Thursday morning, and in the afternoon on Friday. The history of the tournament, which will be hosting its 9th edition in the Web this year, indicates that in order to create options to win, the minimum score lies around -20.
