Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (-8) ended the last round of the Scottish Open with a 71, one over par for the day, finishing in 32nd place, definitely below his own expectations after the solid first three rounds, apart from starting off on Sunday just four shots away from the leader.
The wind kicked up again at the Gullane Golf Club, although not quite as strong as on Saturday, however, the golfer from Madrid did manage to control the situation with the same balance shown in the previous rounds, finishing with a very chaotic day, although he fought hard, with five bogeys and four birdies.
Thus, the European Tour has come to an end for the Spanish golfer (BMW in Germany, Open de France, Irish Open and the Scottish Open) with more than acceptable results (he only missed one cut in France), although he was not able to secure the rights to play in the 2019 European Tour in these four weeks and three tournaments of the Rolex Series. He is currently in 103rd place in the Race to Dubai (the top 110 golfers maintain the card), but he’ll have to return to Europe to finish the job, seeing as how he won’t be playing on the Old Continent anymore, and will thus move down in the rankings.
He will most likely return to the Alfred Dunhill Links, once again on Scottish terrain, around the month of October, although it will all depend on how things go in the Web.com. Competition in the US will commence again from the 26th to the 29th of July in the Pride Cutter Charity Championship.
