Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (-7) is now in an interesting fifteenth place in the Scottish Open after the second round, six shots from the sole leader and star of the tournament, British golfer Robert Rock (-13).
The already outstanding performance by the Spanish golfer (66-shot round) could have even been better at the Gullane Golf Club, as he had a partial for the day of six under on the first twelve holes, put in motion by the eagle he landed on the 2nd hole, which he made out to look extremely simple: a good drive and a solid 6 iron from 190 meters away from the flag, which left him with a putt from one and a half meters out that he wasn’t going to let slip away.
However, he finished with a bogey once again on the 18th hole, a hole which has taken him down now on both of the first two days. “Let’s see if I catch it off guard this weekend and I make a few birdies on it”, the Spanish golfer remarked with a good sense of humor at the end of the round. Despite the minor setback, the golfer from Madrid has had a good rhythm going so far, playing well-organized, without getting into serious problems off the tee. It’s time to keep pushing forward throughout the weekend, as he likes to say, because there’s a lot at stake. For example, returning to the US with the 2018 season tasks completed in the European Tour.
Gonzalo will play in the third round with German golfer, Marcel Siem, starting at 3:05 pm (Spanish time) in a round with slightly more wind than the previous rounds.
