Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (-1) had an excellent finale in the BMW International Open, and moved up twenty places in the rankings after shooting a 68, four under par for the day, much more accurate on the second shots, and also more fine-tuned on the putt.
Gonzalo turned in three consecutive cards of 73 shots in the first three rounds on the Golf Club Gut Larchenhof, a course which resisted against him with all its might, day after day.
Fortunately, it was bound to change this Sunday. So much so, that the golfer from Madrid accumulated almost the same amount of birdies on the last 18 holes (6) than on the 54 previous holes (7). On the back nine, in fact, he went into full-on attack mode, with an exciting exchange of shots and a favorable outcome of five birdies and two bogeys on this stretch.
Additionally, the Spanish golfer, whose category in the European Tour (17) was about to go through a ‘re-ranking’ after this tournament, secured a spot after this finale in the French Open next week, and perhaps in the Irish Open as well, tournament following the French Open, both pertaining to the Rolex Series.
