Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño (+1) did not make the cut in the BMW PGA Championship after shooting a 76 in the second round of the most important regular European Tour tournament of the year.
The golfer from Madrid couldn't keep the rhythm of the spectacular first round going, and he ended up missing the cut with a double bogey on the 18th hole. It was precisely the last two holes on the Wentworth course, the 17th and 18th, two par 5s, that took a toll on the Spanish golfer.
His partial score on these final holes after two days was +2, where he normally would have shot a minimum of two under par, a difference of four definitive shots which ultimately sealed his fate in the tournament. He would not only still be playing through the weekend if it weren’t for those last two holes, but he would also have his sights set on the top ten.
Gonzalo’s next event will be a high stakes tournament as well. He’ll play in the Italian Open next week, Rolex Series tournament held in Brescia.
