Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (+2) did not make the cut in the Savannah Golf Championship after shooting PAR in the second round. He needed an exceptional score to make it through to the weekend after the 74 on Thursday, and throughout the majority of the round he kept his options alive, with a partial score of two under par for the day on the first twelve holes, and another good handful of options for birdie that he was not able to convert. However, playing for all or nothing on the last third of the round, very much in need of birdies (the cut went up to -3), is when the errors and the bogeys came, and he was left with no chance at making it through.
The Spanish golfer’s next stop will be the Open de España within two weeks, European Tour tournament that he wouldn't miss for anything. Although, not having made the cut in the last two tournaments of the Web.com means he will have to return to the US immediately after the event at the National Center in Madrid, missing the Hassan Trophee II tournament in Morocco. His primary goal is to get the good stats flowing again in the Web.com and make his way back to the golden top-25 of the rankings, which he is currently farther from after a good start to the season.
Keep in mind that despite what happens in the European Tour, his main objective has always been and continues to be to earn back the rights to the PGA Tour card.
