Things did not start off well for Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (+2) in the Savannah Golf Championship, after shooting a 74, which means he will need to pick up the slack in the second round if he wants to play through the weekend. The cut is currently established at -1 after the first round.
The golfer from Madrid proved to be solid enough on the long game to have been able to get more out of the final result than he did on the Deer Creek course at the Landings Club (Savannah, Georgia), but the putter did not help things this time around. He caught twelve regulation greens, and in return only made one birdie. Additionally, he finished the round on the 9th hole with two consecutive birdies, leaving him hardly without a cushion to fall back on in the second round.
The Spanish golfer will start out on Friday at nine shots from the leaders, American golfers Christian Brand and Kyle Jones, and in one of the last games of the day, starting at 2:45 pm (8:25 pm Spanish time).
